Eighth Grader Named Young Scholar

Mill Creek Middle School student Libby Thomas went through a rigorous process to receive the title of a Davidson Young Scholar.

Libby Thomas, an eighth grader at , received acceptance into the Davidson Young Scholar program Tuesday, Jan. 17. It is a prestigious program that requires a rigorous application process including letters of recommendation, I.Q. test scores indicating the 99.9th percent, qualifying achievement test scores, qualifying college entrance exam scores and academic samples of work deemed at least two grade levels above her current grade placement.

The purpose of the Davidson Young Scholars program is “to nurture and support profoundly gifted young people” and to help accelerate their intellectual development in addition to their regular school. Davidson academic advisors work with each Young Scholar; there are local and national meetings, and active online communities and services. 

Davidson Young Scholars can be admitted from age 5 to age 18 and stay within the program until they are 19 years old. There are currently less than 1,800 Davidson Young Scholars nationwide.
