Cherokee Volunteer Firefighters Complete Training

The 13 volunteers recently became registered firefighters in a ceremony last month.

Thirteen Cherokee County volunteer firefighters were officially registered as fire fighters last month.

The firefighters received their certificates of completion during ceremonies held on Dec. 7 at Ball Ground United Methodist Church.

The volunteers that received their certificates of completion were: Michael Beasley, Zach Bower, Kenneth Buckles, Alex Carstens, Chase Gazaway, Justin Ison, Michael R. Morgan, Nathan O’Neil, Gerald Riordan, Nathanael Seidel, Jordan Steele, JackTuszynski and Tyler Wyatt.

The keynote speaker for the evening was Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services' Assistant Chief Eddie Robinson.

After Chief Robinson’s speech, firefighters Nathanael Seidel received the Pinnacle Award and Justin Ison was awarded the Lewis Williams Outstanding Achievement Award.

Volunteers were taught the fundamentals on fire behavior and proceeds through water supplies, protective equipment and breathing apparatus, hose nozzles, forcible entry, fire streams, suppression techniques and ventilation.

They were also schooled on other topics necessary to provide a firefighter with the basic knowledge of firefighting.

The firefighters also visited the Georgia Public Safety Training Center in Forsyth to participate in training in the live fire burn building.
