Run, Walk for Charity

Spend quality family time being active and giving back.

It’s Wednesday morning. The kids are out of school. What have you done this week? If you are home going stir crazy, get out and do something fun with the kids. They are only young for a short time. Take advantage of this week's break and make memories with your children.

Why Go: Raise money for charitable causes chosen by the  (Guns) and  (Hoses).

Pricing: $20 advance registration, $25 on race day. Registration is available online at www.active.com, but a $3.25 convenience fee will be applied.

Where/When: Cherokee Recreation & Parks Agency, today through Friday.

Why Go: Your child can have fun with friends traveling to different locations.

Pricing: $120 for the week ($24 per day).

Where/WhenJ.J. Biello Park, 250 Brooke Blvd., Woodstock. Open daily.

Why Go: It's the largest playground in the state of Georgia.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: 508 Riverstone Pkwy., Canton (behind the ). Open daily from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Why Go: This public park has a 0.85-mile paved path by the Etowah River for walking, running, riding bikes and rollerskating. There is also plenty of grassy space for tossing a ball or having a picnic. Swings and benches are placed sporadically by the path for rest and relaxation.

Pricing: Free.

Where/When: , 151 Waleska St., Canton. Open Monday through Thursday from 5:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m.; Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from 1 to 6 p.m. 

Why Go: The Y boasts programs and activities for people of all ages. Exercise while children up to 12 years old play in the Kidzone. There are plenty of activities for smaller children to enjoy in the child care area. Afterward, the entire family can enjoy a dip in the indoor heated swimming pool.

Pricing: First time guests can sign up online for a free seven-day pass.
