Sheriff Garrison Will Be "Roasted" for Charity

The sheriff has accepted an invitation to be the man of honor at the 10th Annual Charity Roast benefiting the local Boys & Girls Club.

Although this is the final term for long-time Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison, that doesn't mean he is resting on his laurels.

Garrison, who is serving his sixth and final term as the county sheriff, will soon become the target of some good natured-ribbing at the 10th Annual Charity Roast for the Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club, which will be held on Sept. 26 at 6:30 p.m. at the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Conference Center.

"I’m honored to offer myself to help raise these much needed funds for one of the most worthy causes in Cherokee County," said Garrison.

Garrison will be the butt of jokes made by such luminaries as radio personality Rhubarb Jones, Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Georgia Bureau of Investigations Director Vernon Keenan and Cherokee County State Court Judge Alan Gordon.

The master of ceremonies will be Jamie Bendall, owner of the Punchline Comedy Club.

The roast regularly draws 500 attendees and consists of a cocktail reception, live entertainment, a buffet, and silent auctions. Historically, the event has raised roughly $75,000 a year for the organization.

"The funds raised from the annual Charity Roast help the local Boys & Girls Club offer after school services, leadership development programs and a safe haven for at-risk and disadvantaged youth in our community," said Cherokee County Manager Jerry Cooper, this year's roast committee chair. "By pulling together, we can make a difference."

Tickets for the event are $75. Community members are also being asked to donate items for auction or to become sponsors of the roast.

For further information on purchasing tickets, donating auction items, or becoming a sponsor of the roast, please contact Cooper at (678) 493-6008 or email jcooper@cherokeega.com
