Environment Club at Woodstock High School Benefit Concert

The Environmental Club at Woodstock High School in Cherokee County has been active and successful this year, and with the help of hardworking members, the Club has been able to organize an imminent benefit environmental concert that will take place on Earth Day, April 22, 2011, from 7-10 p.m. at the school's stadium.

The concert will include local bands and singers from Georgia that have agreed to perform for the club's cause, which is to promote local energy efficiency and carbon reduction, and to educate others about sustainability. The headliner is the Beau Hall Band, and two teachers will be performing--Dan Page, the AWESOME Blues Dude and Dr. Ingram--The Jack Johnson Cover Band. Student bands to be performing are from Woodstock, Cherokee and Sequoyah High Schools.

This is a student production, and students in the Club have each taken a specific job to plan the show, such as designing the promotional poster, recruiting bands, securing sponsors, and documenting progress.

The Environmental Club has also aligned with the ACE program. With their help, the Club is working towards reducing Woodstock High School’s carbon footprint by utilizing solar power to provide the electricity needed to run the High School office. They are contracting Tree Sound Studios to bring a solar powered stage for their Earth Day concert event.

Costs before the show will be: ticket and t-shirt for $15; and at the gate: ticket $10 and t-shirt $15. Vendors will also be available at the concert, including Chick-fil-A and Menches’ Yogurt.
