Our Own Consign Design Divas

Rose Glass may work at Blue Frog Imports part time, but her passion lies in thrifty interior decorating and event planning with her best friend as the partnership Lantana and Rose.

Local Rose Glass has found she has an innate drive to beautify things, both in interior design and event planning.

After studying floral design, Glass began to work for a florist who had a standing order with a group of Buckhead attorneys.

“They hired us yearly to decorate their houses for Christmas or parties. I had always done my own decorating and painting, but to go into someone else's home and do it is different,” Glass said.

This experience with both floral arrangements as well as interior decorating sparked Glass' interest. After the florist folded, Glass joined up with her best friend in what became a complimentary-for-friends-and-family partnership. They also voluntarily decorated the 's annual and created gift baskets for the event. The two decorated and planned events on the house for a while before they had an epiphany.

“This is crazy, we thought. We love doing this, we enjoy it, we said," Glass explained. "I had been doing it for years, and she had always done it for friends and family. This is what we love, we said. Let's do it for a living."

Lantana and Rose was formed, and clients began benefiting from the inventiveness of the pair immediately. They can meet nearly any budget and are experts at repurposing thrifted items.

“We get an adrenaline rush when we go thrifting. We do a lot of things other than going out and just buying stuff. We say, we can turn this into that."

One customer's apartment was bare bones, and Glass was able to help her transform her small space into an eclectic paradise. Lantana and Rose turned a floor candle holder into a toilet paper holder and bought frames from thrift stores to display the client's movie posters.

“We spray paint and hand paint and do a lot of things like that. We get very creative in order to make things look professional for a low price,” Glass said.

Despite the low price tag on many of Lantana and Rose's jobs, they refuse to accept a “cheap” look. They purchase second-hand items that are of good quality and bring them up to par through creativity and innovation.

Their design process involves consultation with the customer to compile a color palette and to feel out the client's style. Though Glass' personal style is mostly contemporary and fun, she is able to easily adapt to suit a customer's needs.

“I don't have a hard time with it. I am able to use my creativity to be able to do things. When they say I want a complete traditional look, and these are the colors I want, that's never been a problem. But of course when you get to put your own flair on it that's fun."

Their inventiveness and frugality carries over to the event planning side of the business as well. They planned a beautiful wedding at the Atlanta Contemporary Art Center for just $5,000. The customer wanted an eclectic and contemporary feel to match the venue, and Lantana and Rose were able to deliver.

“That was the price for the entire thing. That includes catering, rentals, all of the fixtures we used, all the linens, every single thing. There were about 100 people there.”

Glass says they have taken on jobs from just $100, and they use their ingenuity to present a completed project that is both pleasing and exciting for the customer.

She says she enjoys working at Blue Frog Imports because being surrounded by the art fuels her creativity, as many of the pieces in the gallery are repurposed items. Glass has even comissioned owner for pieces of art.

“I feel very at home there. This is my element."

Lantana and Rose are in the process of having a website designed, but Glass can be contacted at 678-755-7201.
