Recipe for Johnny Appleseed Day: Apple Cinnamon Bread
Bake an apple-themed treat in honor of Johnny Appleseed Day.
Today, March 11 marks Johnny Appleseed Day.
John Chapman, better known as Johnny Appleseed, is credited with starting the apple industry in Western Pennsylvania, in Northern Ohio and Indiana, according to an article on About.com.
In honor of the day pick up some apples and bake a pie, enjoy with peanut butter or try your hand at baking apple cinnamon bread.

Apple Cinnamon Bread
Ingredients

3 cups flour
2 cups sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
3 eggs
1 cup oil
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 cups diced apples (peel skins first)
1 teaspoon brown sugar (for glaze topping)
2 tablespoon butter (for glaze topping)
Directions
1. Mix dry ingredients together (flour, cinnamon, sugar, baking soda and baking powder).
2. Beat eggs, vanilla and oil in with dry ingredients.
3. Stir in the peeled and diced apples.
4. Pour batter into 2 greased loaf pans.
5. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes to 1 hour (until a knife or toothpick can be inserted into the center of the bread and come out clean).
6. While bread is cooling, heat butter and brown sugar on low until liquefied.
7. Drizzle the brown sugar and butter over the top of the bread.
