River Ridge Coach, Teacher Arrested in School Sex Assault Case Resign

The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said the coach sexually assaulted a 16-year-old student, and the teacher failed to report it.

The two  employees  have resigned, district spokeswoman Barbara Jacoby said today.

According to the agenda for tonight's school board meeting, Cherokee Superintendent Frank Petruzielo will recommend the board approve the resignations of paraprofessional Robert Leslie Morrow and teacher Kristin May, both from Canton.

The  said Morrow sexually assaulted the student in his vehicle in a local business park within the River Park subdivision, which is located near Sixes Road on Highway 5. May had knowledge of the incident, but failed to report it, sheriff's spokesman Lt. Jay Baker said.

Morrow, 28, was arrested Aug. 11 on a charge of sexual assault by a person of authority. May, 32, was arrested on a charge of failure to report. Both were released from the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center on the same day.

The victim, who no longer attends River Ridge High, reported the December 2010 assault to the  on July 26.

School district officials were notified of a joint investigation between that agency and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office around the same time.

May was reassigned to a position without student contact and Morrow, a former three-time  state wrestling champion, was "immediately placed on administrative leave," Jacoby said.

Three days after the victim reported the incident, according to tonight's agenda, Morrow resigned on July 29.

The reason given?

"Leaving profession."

May cited a "personal" reason for her Aug. 18 resignation.
