Pearle Vision Sees Double Trouble

Police arrest a man who is accused of stealing $10,000 worth of merchandise in two visits to the same store.

A Woodstock man couldn’t stay away from or its merchandise, police say.

After he grabbed another $5,000 on his second shoplifting trip, the reported, officers arrested Tracy Roberts and charged him with two counts of felony theft by shoplifting and one count of possession of tools of a crime.

Roberts wasn’t a stranger to the business at 9801 Highway 92. Just the week before, he also had taken $5,000 worth of merchandise, police Officer Randy Milligan said. The surveillance camera was rolling while Roberts hid everything on him, making him easily identifiable to the employees.

At 11:32 a.m., Pearle Vision employees recognized Roberts as they watched him conceal more merchandise on himself and called the Woodstock police, Milligan said.

Officers Manuel Barajas and Keith McGaw found all the merchandise either on Roberts or in his vehicle in an adjacent parking lot as he was attempting to leave.
