Students Participate in 'Prom and Circumstance'

This year's featured speakers were Sheriff Roger Garrison, Matt Blaylock and Nicole Mott.

Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison spoke to students Monday morning for the annual “Prom and Circumstance” program.

But, it was two other speakers that made an impact on the students about life-changing decisions.

Matt Blaylock, a 2009 graduate of Cherokee High School, suffered a spinal cord injury in 2009 the night before his high school graduation.

Nicole Mott, a 2012 graduate of Etowah High School, lost her mother to a drunken driver when she was 18 months old.

All three speakers were asked to raise awareness about the importance of good decision-making by offering real and timely examples.

Etowah students were also asked to sign the “Prom Promise” document with their parents and principal promising not to drink or take drugs on prom night.
