UPDATE: Woodstock Officer On Leave After Fatally Shooting Suspect

A Woodstock police officer shot a suspect after responding to a suspicious person call at Walmart on Highway 92.

UPDATE at 9 p.m. April 12: The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has identified the suspect who was fatally shot by an officer with the Woodstock Police Department. 

The man is 45-year-old Dennis Doty, who died after he was transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta for treatment, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Authorities are investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Friday evening in the parking lot of Walmart Supercenter in Woodstock. 

At around 9:15 p.m. Friday, April 11, officers with the Woodstock Police Department responded to a suspicious person call in the parking lot of the big box retailer at 12182 Highway 92.

"Shortly after arrival, an officer-involved shooting occurred," the agency said in a press release.

No further details were released.

The officer involved in the shooting was not injured. Per department policy, the officer has been placed on administrative leave. No details about the suspect's condition has been released. 

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating the shooting.
