City Receives $80,000 Grant

The Atlanta Regional Commission awarded Woodstock a grant to allow the city to complete a 10-year update to its Livable Center Initiative plan.

Woodstock will be updating its Livable Center Initiative plan that has shaped the development downtown with an $80,000 grant from the Atlanta Regional Commission.

The plan was completed and adopted in 2002 by the , and this required 10-year update keeps the city an LCI community while also allowing adjustments to the original plan.

Entering its 13th year, the Livable Centers Initiative has awarded 127 communities with more than $153 million in planning and implementation grants.

“LCI has helped communities across metro Atlanta re-tool and redesign over the years, creating more places that attract residents and businesses alike,” said Tad Leithead, ARC chairman. “Our local government partners have used these grants to the benefit of their communities and the entire region.”

A downtown area parking analysis and recommendations and retail-mix strategy are expected to come from the update.

“The first 10 years of Woodstock’s LCI program have seen tremendous results in the revitalization of downtown,” said Woodstock’s Director of Community Development, Richard McLeod. “The plan for the next 10 years will be to keep the momentum going while also addressing the challenges of mobility, parking and ensuring the right mix of land uses to sustain our success.”
