Council Discusses Millage Rates, Greenprints Trails Additions

The in downtown. The council will discuss this year's millage rate. The current mill rate is at 7.016, and the Finance Department is recommending increasing the rate to 7.292.

The City is at an underfund of $496,625 with this year's Tax Digest assessment being reduced by 7.65 percent. So that the City’s millage can be filed, the Finance Department suggests the City Council reduces tax collection revenues by 2.64 percent by increasing the tax millage rate to 7.292. Subsequently, this will reduce the tax revenue collection underfunding to $248,312.

After much discussion at the , the council will hear the second reading of the sign ordinance revisions. A few highlights concerning banners were among the necessary changes. One addition to the ordinance was banners up to 12 square feet are permitted as long as they are mounted by bracket and pole to the principle structure.

The board will also discuss a contract to purchase a piece of land between Towne Lake and Downtown Woodstock for the Greenprints trail. The contract has been accepted by the seller, and funding is coming from the Cherokee County Parks and Recreation Bond for $160,000.

The second reading of the disorderly conduct ordinance amendment is on the consent agenda. If passed, "Make threats to harm themselves or another person or make statements indicating their intent to harm themselves or another person," will be added to the ordinance.

Also on the agenda, Police Chief David Bores will recognize Officer Lance Russell for his work in the field with the Unsung Hero Award.
