Parks and Rec Director Earns National Certification

Preston Pooser is among the first in the nation to earn a master level certification for parks and recreation professionals.

Director Preston Pooser will be recognized at tonight's for being one of the first to earn a national certification.

Pooser, who's been the director for three years, earned his Certified Park and Recreation Executive certification granted by the National Certification Board in conjunction with the National Recreation and Park Association.

The CPRE program recognizes advanced skills and competencies related to the professional practice and delivery of park and recreation programs and services.

Pooser had to meet the following requirements to earn his CPRE certification: have a current Certified Park and Recreation Professional certification, meet specific requirements for education and experience and pass an exam covering topics such as communication, finance, human resources, operations and planning.

The certification establishes a national standard for managerial, administrative and executive parks and recreation professionals, according to the CPRE website. It also signifies to the public the leaders of park and recreation agencies seek to uphold the highest standards of service for the communities they serve.
