Skole Taken in 5th Round of MLB Draft

Woodstock's Matt Skole was selected on Tuesday by the Washington Nationals.

Woodstock native, and Georgia Tech third baseman Matt Skole was selected in the fifth round of the 2011 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft Tuesday. The junior was the 157th overall pick and was taken by the Washington Nationals.

Skole led the Yellow Jackets this season with a .348 batting average and 58 runs batted in and was second with 10 home runs and a .545 slugging percentage.

"It has been a life-long dream of mine to get drafted, and my family and I are real excited," said Skole. "I am glad the Nationals have given me the opportunity to pursue my goals, and hopefully everything will work out."

Skole was named to the All-American Freshman team in 2009, and was an Atlantic Coast Conference All-Conference player in 2010 and 2011.
