The popular fundraiser to bring more multi-use trails to Woodstock will return next month.

The fifth-annual Trailfest will be held Saturday, May 3 in downtown Woodstock. The festivities will set up shop along Market Street and on the event green at the Elm Street Cultural Arts Village. The event will run 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., rain or shine.

The event will start with a 5K race and 1-mile Fun Run hosted by Natural Strides

The 5K will start right behind the shoe store at 8 a.m., and will be an out-and-back race on the newly finished portion of the Greenprints Towne to Creek and Noonday Creek Trail segment. The fun-run will begin at 9 a.m.

Awards will be given to the top three male and female finishers and overall age group finishers. The fun run ($10) is for children under 12 years of age. Every entrant will receive a T-shirt and swag bag.

Registration for the race can be done online

Following the race, the city of Woodstock will hold a ribbon cutting for the grand opening of its Town To Creek and Noonday Creek trail segments.

The segments are roughly 1.5 miles of concrete, multi-use trails.

As usual, Trailfest will include, music, food, entertainment, outdoor recreational activities and beer. So far this year's music acts include Kurt Thomas, Charlie Parker Sheets, Red White and Blues Band and The Shetlands.

Residents will also be able to enjoy beer from New Belgium Brewing and Reformation Brewery.

TrailFest, which draws more than 1,000 people each year, is the largest fundraiser for Greenprints Alliance, a nonprofit advocacy organization committed to raising money and awareness of the city's Greenprints Master Plan.

The plan includes building over 60 miles of multi-purpose trails throughout Woodstock.

Sponsor opportunities are still available for TrailFest 2014 and the deadline for print materials is April 15. For more information, contact Colin Ake at colin@greenprintsalliance.org.

Trailfest is free to attend, but donations are welcome and can be done online.
