More runners needed for 'Guns & Hoses' Charity Run

The annual Guns & Hoses 5K will be held Feb. 16.

The Cherokee Recreation and Parks Agency would like to see more participants in its seventh annual Guns & Hoses 5K and 1 Mile Fun Run.

The agency, which is teaming up with the Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office for the event, had 650 runners last year and hope to reach 700 to participate during the event on Saturday Feb. 16.

CRPA currently has 234 runners signed up for the sheriff's office and 187 signed up for the fire department, said Neely Montejunas, recreation division director with the agency.

The race will be held at Hobgood Park in Towne Lake. Participants can choose which team — guns for the sheriff's office or hoses for the fire department — and the $5 of the total registration fee will be donated to a local charity.

Registration is $30 for the 5K and $15 for the fun-run and participants can register online before Sunday Feb. 10 on CRPA's website

Starting Monday Feb. 11, registration before race day will only be accepted in person at CRPA's offices in Woodstock.

Race-day registration, which is also $30 for the race and $15 for the fun-run, starts at 7 a.m. at the pavilion in the park's Adult Softball Complex.

The fun run will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the 5k will start at 8 a.m.

The event this year will benefit CASA Cherokee. Court Appointed Special Advocates are volunteers appointed by judges to oversee the welfare of neglected and abused children.

If 700 runners sign up for the race, the event could raise $3,500 for the agency, which is based in Canton.
