News Near Woodstock: Run with Santa Claus in Downtown Canton

The Service League of Cherokee County's 11th annual Run for the Children 5K will take place in Canton next month.

The Service League of Cherokee County is inviting runners and walkers alike to participate in its 11th annual Run for the children 5K and 1-Mile Fun Run.

The race will be held Saturday, Dec. 7 in downtown Canton and will begin and end at Cannon Park. The fun run starts at 8 a.m. and the 5K will kick off at 8:30 a.m. 

Northside Pharmacy & Medical Supply will provide a $1,000 cash prize, which will be given to a Cherokee County school that can turn out the most race participants.

Santa Claus will lead the race and will also be available afterwards to pose for holiday photographs with race participants.

Runners who pre-register will receive a long-sleeved T-shirt and jingle bells. Cash prizes and medals will be awarded in the 5K race to the top three overall male and female runners. 

Medals will be awarded to the top three finishers in each age group. All 1-Mile Fun Run participants will receive a commemorative ribbon.

Registration between now and Nov. 29 for the 5K race is $25. The price increases to $30 between Nov. 29 and race day. Registration for the fun run will be $15 up to the day of the event.  

Phantom runners, or those who do not want to run but would like to contribute, can receive a t-shirt if they register as one of Santa’s Helpers before November 29th for $15. 

Race-day registration starts at 7 a.m. at the gazebo in the park and pre-race package pickup will be available from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 6 at the gazebo.
