Recycle Your Christmas Tree and Get Free Mulch

Looking for a way to dispose of your Christmas tree?

Cherokee County residents can now bypass tossing Christmas tress into the garbage by taking advantage of the Bring One For The Chipper campaign.

Already in full swing, the initiative allows residents to drop off their trees to be recycled into mulch.

The mulch is used for many public beautification projects, according to Keep Georgia Beautiful, which is sponsoring the campaign with 11 Alive, The Home Depot, Davey Tree & Lawn Care and Earth 911. 

Locations where Cherokee residents can drop off their trees include Hobgood Park, Sequoyah Park, Boling Park in Canton, Holly Springs Public Works facility at 100 Hickory Circle, Olde Rope Mill Park in Woodstock and Ball Ground Community Center at 250 Civic Drive. 

Trees also can be chipped at The Home Depot locations in Woodstock, Canton and at 4520 Holly Springs Parkway in Holly Springs. 

Sequoyah, Hobgood and Olde Rope Mill parks all opened on Wednesday and will be open through mid-January.

Trees will be collected at the Holly Springs Public Works building through Jan. 5, 2013, and trees will only be accepted at Boling Park on Jan. 5-6, 2013.

Of course, trees must have all decorations removed before they can be recycled.

The trees dropped off will be chipped up into mulch, and residents will also be able to sign up to have mulch delivered to their homes for free. Residents can also sign up for the service by clicking here. 

In Woodstock, which is dubbing its Bring One For The Chipper initiative Christmas Tree Chip & Dip, residents can drop off their trees at the park to be fed into the city's chipper.

Then, starting next week between 8 a.m. to dusk, residents who bring shovels can "dip" into the mulch for free. 

Olde Rope Mill Park will also be the venue of the day-long annual Bring One For The Chipper event from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 5, 2013, at the park.

Residents will also be able to pick up free seedlings at the event. Hot chocolate will be served.
