Woodstock Motorcycle Ride Raises Over $3,000

The event raised money for the Woodstock Police Foundation's Shop with a Hero program.

More than 50 bikers rode around Cherokee County last weekend for a good cause.

A total of 53 bikers participated in the Shop with a Hero Charity Motorcycle Ride, sponsored by the Woodstock Police Foundation and the Woodstock Police Department's.

Held on Oct. 13, the bikers left from the Wal-Mart at Highway 92 and Trickum Road late Saturday morning and traveled a route which took them throughout Cherokee County. The ride ended roughly 90 minutes later at Guston’s Grille at Highway 92 and Trickum Road.

Charitable contributions were received and items were also raffled off at the end of the ride. About $3,100 was raised, which will go towards the department's Shop with a Hero program.

“It was great to see such a big turnout," said Woodstock Police Sgt. Shane Collie, who also serves as the supervisor of the department’s Special Operations Group.  “This was an opportunity to combine two of my passions, motorcycle riding and giving the gift of Christmas to children. We all had a good time riding while raising money for a great cause."

Shop With A Hero, a partnership with the police department and the Woodstock Fire Department, allows underprivileged children to shop for presents for themselves or their parents at local stores.

Along with Shop With A Hero, money donated to the foundation helps funds its educational and charitable initiatives such as community oriented partnerships, an explorer post for teenagers interested in a law enforcement career and public safety nonprofit programs.
