A Deer Run resident has tossed her hat into the ring to run for the Cherokee County School Board.

Erica Williams qualified as a Republican to face off with fellow challenger Clark Menard in the May 20 primary for the District 5 seat.

The post covers Woodstock and parts of Towne Lake. It's currently occupied by incumbent Rob Usher, who decided not to seek re-election to a second term.

“I have been engaged in education for over 15 years and I want to be a positive voice for our children and our taxpayers," Williams said.

Williams, who said her passion for learning is a "selfish pursuit," said if she's elected she will be "laser focused" on issues that are critical to students and the classroom.

"My life is immersed in every level of education," she added. "Every day in my house, we deal with issues facing pre-school to high school (students) and every level in between, so I understand the challenges of families, teachers, small business owners and taxpayers. I will bring positive solutions based on the daily challenges and experiences of our family."

Williams graduated from Walton High School and Kennesaw State University. She and husband Jim have lived in Cherokee County for over 17 years.

Agreed. She sounds about as qualified as that Clark Menard character, whose only qualification seems to be 'Brother of SCRAM hate-group founder Christine Menard'. We need qualified people on the BOE, not more candidates with personal vendettas! boom shakalaka Amen!

Just to clarify, I am a current teacher who works in a GA Bright from the Start Pre K classroom. I am a level 8 educator and am registered with GA PDR. For this reason, I will focus on what is classroom critical.

Thank you for your explanation. Now how is this Clark Menard qualified for a BOE position?

Having the fortitude to actually face the electorate is a strong point.
