Cherokee Resident Killed In Early Morning Accident

The man, identified as 19-year-old Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, was fatally hit Thursday morning while walking along East Cherokee Drive.

A pedestrian was hit and killed Thursday morning along one of Cherokee County's busiest thoroughfares.

Brandon Paul Mitcheltree, 19, of Canton, was fatally struck this morning shortly before 7 a.m. while walking along East Cherokee Drive near Berry Patch Road, Georgia State Patrol Spokesperson Gordy Wright said.

State troopers responded to the scene of the accident at 6:51 a.m., which occurred near the Hickory Flat community.

Mitcheltree was walking southbound with traffic in the travel lane when a PT Cruiser, driven by Joseph Michael Homesley, 21 of Canton, rounded a curve and hit Mitchelpree, Wright added. Mitcheltree died at the scene.

Homesley did not see Mitcheltree in the roadway.

Wright said no charges will be filed in the accident, which alcohol and weather were determined not to have been a factor.
