News Near Woodstock: Lake Arrowhead Gets First Female Fire Chief

Rebecca Strobl was formally recognized as the volunteer department's first female chief during a pinning ceremony held last weekend.

A new face is now in charge at the Lake Arrowhead Volunteer Fire Department.

A pinning ceremony was held over the weekend for Rebecca Strobl, who was tapped to serve as the first female fire chief in Cherokee County.

Strobl was formally bestowed the honor on Saturday at the Golf Clubhouse at Lake Arrowhead, which sits just northwest of Waleska.

Strobl began her career as a volunteer firefighter with the department about six years ago.

Cherokee County Fire Chief Tim Prather and Strobl’s husband Garrett both pinned the new chief insignias on Rebecca’s collar.

Prather told the crowd he was proud of Strobl’s accomplishment and that "it was great to be able to be a part of this ceremony to see the first female chief in the county."

Both U.S. Rep. Phil Gingrey, who represents Cherokee County in the House of Representatives  and Cherokee County Commissioner and Former Fire Chief Ray Gunnin spoke at the ceremony.
