Woodstock Woman Killed In Accident

Alcohol and speed are suspected to be contributing factors in the fatal wreck.

Speed and alcohol could have been a contributing factor in an accident that took the life of a Woodstock woman late Wednesday night.

Lydia Bordacs, 57, of Woodstock, died from injuries she suffered after her SUV crashed head-on into a tree along South Cherokee Lane near Jamerson Road at the Cobb/Cherokee line.

Bordacs, who was behind the wheel, hit a tree shortly before 10:20 p.m. and landed near the woods along the road. Her son Peter Kubanyi, 33, was a passenger in the vehicle and was not seriously injured in the accident.

The Cherokee County sheriff's deputy responding to the incident reported he found Bordacs "lying over to her right side and she was slumped down in the seat a little," according to an incident report released by the sheriff's office.

The deputy reported Bordacs' seatbelt was "already undone." The deputy helped Kubanyi remove Bordacs from the vehicle and started performing CPR.

The deputy noted he "began to smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage" and asked Kubanyi if he and his mother had been drinking.

"I explained to him that I could smell the odor of an alcoholic beverage on him and he said yes they both had been drinking," the deputy wrote.

Kubanyi told the deputy he and his mother had four drinks with dinner. The man also told the deputy he told his mother "as she came into the curve that she was too fast and wasn't going to make it."

Both were transported to WellStar Kennestone Hospital in Marietta where Bordacs was pronounced dead. Kubanyi was also treated.

The accident remains under investigation by the sheriff's office.
