Ashton Woods Eyes Highway 92 Subdivision

The company is asking the city of Woodstock to annex and rezone close to 30 acres to accommodate a 105-single family residential neighborhood.

A large home building company wants to expand its footprint in Woodstock.

Ashton Atlanta Residential LLC, known nationwide as Ashton Woods, has petitioned the city to annex and rezone 26.75 acres from R-80 in Cherokee County to R-3(A), which would allow them to construct a 105-unit single family detached residential neighborhood.

The proposal has caught the eye of the Cherokee County Commission, which is slated to review the petition during its meeting on Tuesday.

The property in question, which encompasses two parcels located at 13426 and 13430 Highway 92, sits just east of the Mountain Brook Woodstock subdivision.

According to the company's application with the city, they are also seeking reductions in lot sizes, elimination of the buffer required in Woodstock's Highway 92 overlay and a reduction in both the side and front set backs.

The case will go before the Woodstock Planning Commission at 7 p.m. Dec. 5 and to the Woodstock City Council during its Dec. 16 meeting, which also starts at 7 p.m.

Ashton Woods is the builder behind Woodstock Knoll (located along Main Street near Ridgewalk Parkway) and Woodstock Knoll Overlook (sits off Haney Road just outside of downtown Woodstock).

It's also behind the Stoney Creek development, which sits along Highway 5 in Holly Springs.
