Barnes, Ragsdale Road Subdivisons Will Get Woodstock Scrutiny

Two petitions from Oak Hall Companies, LLC to build new homes along Barnes and Ragsdale roads will be heard by the Woodstock Planning Commission.

Two requests from one company to build neighborhoods within two of each other will be voted on by the Woodstock Planning Commission.

The commission will meet at 7 p.m. tonight at the Chambers at City Center. It will have a 6 p.m. work session to review its lighting ordinance.

Oak Hall Companies, LLC has petitioned the city to annex and rezone about 82.5 acres of land at the intersection of Barnes and Trickum roads from R-40/residential and agricultural in Cherokee to R-3A to allow for 196 single family detached homes on the land.

The company initially had its request heard by the Woodstock Planning Commission in October, but the commission voted to table the request due to the changes the company made to satisfy the Cherokee County Commission.

Commissioners will also consider the company's request to rezone 17.05 acres of land along Ragsdale Road to build single-family residential homes. The property is located on the two-lane road just east of Trickum Road.

Oak Hall wants to build 51 homes on the property, which was rezoned in 2006 for an active adult, gated townhome community that was to be called StoneLedge.

The property has been partially developed with curb cuts, decorative lighting and streets, but no structures were ever built.

The planning commission will send its recommendations for approval or denial to the Woodstock City Council, which will consider the cases during its Nov. 18 meeting.
