Cherokee Commission To Consider Vehicle Purchase For Sheriff's Office

The Cherokee County Commission will consider whether to approve 12 new vehicles for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office during its meeting tonight.

The purchase of 12 vehicles for the Cherokee Sheriff's Office will be considered by the Cherokee county Board of Commissioners during its meeting tonight.

The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at the Cherokee County administration building in Canton. The meeting will be preceded by its work session at 3 p.m. 

The commission will consider purchasing the vehicles from Cherokee Dodge and Hardy Chevrolet for $403,161. Cherokee Dodge was the low bidder of the Dodge Charger at $32,317 and Hardy Chevrolet was the low bidder of the Chevrolet Tahoe at $35,412.

The commissioners will also consider a request from Trevor Barnett to rezone 1.89 acres from R-40 residential to general commercial.

The property is located along Highway 140/Hickory Flat Highway and Reece Road in southesat Cherokee County.

According to his application, Barnett plans to use the property to relocate his commercial contract flooring company. 

The Cherokee County Planning Commission during its Jan. 8 meeting voted to recommend denial of the proposal.
