Cherokee: Cosby's Accusations Include "So Many Incorrect Statements"

The law firm representing Cherokee County is fighting back at allegations from Carolyn Cosby that interim Elections Supervisor Kim Stancil is mishandling the process to verify her petition signatures.

The law firm representing the Cherokee County government is taking Carolyn Cosby to task over recent allegations she's made regarding the Elections and Voter Registration staff's efforts to verify signatures on her petition to gain placement on the Nov. 4 ballot.

Larry Ramsey Jr., a lawyer with Jarrard & Davis, has penned a letter to Cosby's attorney Channing Ruskell to counter points made by his client, including allegations that the elections staff is engaging in gender discrimination, "virtually ignoring" her petition and using a "non-existent" state law to justify the process.

Cosby is hoping to have enough valid signatures to be placed on the Nov. 4 ballot as an Independent candidate for the Cherokee County Commission chair race.

In press releases issued this week, Cosby has accused Stancil of "discriminating against me by putting the needs of a Libertarian male candidate ahead of a female former TEA Party leader."

Cosby is referring to Jeff Amason, the Libertarian candidate who launched a petition process to gain placement on the Nov. 4 ballot to challenge Republican State Rep. Scot Turner for the House District 21 seat.

Stancil has denied such claims, and said state rules dictate the time frame for Amason's petition process.

Stancil also said her staff has worked on verifying Cosby's signatures since the day she turned in the petition and noted she plans to have all signatures verified by Aug. 1.
