Cherokee To Put Woodstock Annexation Under Microscope

Ashton Woods wants the city of Woodstock to annex and rezone property on Highway 92 in order to build a 105-unit single family residential neighborhood.

The Cherokee County Commission will review a notice of annexation from the city of Woodstock during its meeting today.

The commission meets today at 3 p.m. for its work session and 6 p.m. for its regular meeting. Both will be held at the Cherokee County Administration Building in Canton.

Ashton Woods has petitioned Woodstock to annex and rezone close to 30 acres from R-80 in unincorporated Cherokee County to R-3(A), which would allow for the company to build a 105-home subdivision.

The property is located along Highway 92 just east of Mountain Brook Parkway.

Commissioners will also consider accepting a grant from the Governor's Office of Highway Safety in the amount of $32,300, which would be used towards its DUI/Drug Treatment Court program.

The body will also vote to approve purchasing three Bullard Thermal Imaging Cameras from Georgia Fire and Rescue Supply, which is slated to cost $30,033.

To pay for the cameras, the county plans to approve a budget amendment to move $22,033 from fire operations uniform fund to the fire operations capital outlay fund and accept a donation from the Ball Ground Volunteer Fire Department in the amount of $8,000.

The cameras will be an upgrade to the county's existing cameras, and will enhance the current levels of service.
