Cherokee Wants To Resurface Towne Lake, Rose Creek

The Cherokee County Commission on Tuesday will consider awarding a bid to C.W. Matthews to resurface Towne Lake Parkway and Rose Creek Drive.

The ride along Towne Lake Parkway and Rose Creek Drive could soon get a lot smoother.

The Cherokee County Commission on Tuesday will consider awarding a bid to resurface both roads during its regular meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Cherokee County Administrative Building in Canton.

County staff recommends the commission award the bid to resurface both thoroughfares to Marietta-based C.W. Matthews, which was the lowest of three bids the county received. The contract is set for $1.75 million.

However, staff also recommends adding a request for the company to install right-hand turn lanes into the Fairways of Towne Lake, Rose Creek at Towne Lake and The Arbors at Towne Lake subdivisions for an additional $144,546.34, bringing the total contract to $1.9 million.

The project will be funded with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax, or SPLOST, dollars.

Towne Lake Parkway will be resurfaced between its intersection with Eagle Drive and Bells Ferry Road, which is 3.25 miles. Rose Creek Drive will be resurfaced between Towne Lake Parkway and Eagle Drive, which is just over 1 mile in distance.

Cherokee County Public Works Director Geoff Morton said construction could start in early August and wrap up by Nov. 1.
