Reformation Brewery One Step Closer To Opening in Woodstock

City officials say the company has signed the lease to the building it plans to move into later this year.

The Cherokee County-based brewery eyeing the possibility of moving to Woodstock could be one step closer to making that happen.

City Manager Jeff Moon told the Woodstock Downtown Development Authority meeting on Thursday that Reformation Brewery has signed the lease to the building it plans to move into on Arnold Mill Way.

The company plans to move into a facility near Hutcheson Horticulture later this year.

Spencer Nix, CEO of Reformation Brewery, said the company did in fact sign a lease, but it's currently in a "due diligence" period in which they have 60 days to decide whether they will move forward.

"There’s still a lot of things that are going to dictate our time line as far as being in production," he said, adding he still believes it won't be at least until the summer before anything concrete can happen.

The city earlier this year approved two readings of an ordinance that would alter the downtown area's boundary lines to include the Arnold Mill Way property.

The change was needed so the company can apply for a Downtown Development Revolving Loan from the state Department of Community Affairs.

In other business, the DDA also voted 4-2, with DDA Chair Jimmy Long and Board Director Jennifer Nelson opposing, to approve awarding a $3,480 matching facade grant to Freight Kitchen & Tap for work they did on the exterior on their building.

Board members also approved a $5,000 matching facade grant application to Woodstock Art Glass for work they did on their building.

Long informed the board the improvements underway at The Magnolia Thomas Restaurant continues.

The restaurant closed its doors earlier this week to do the repairs and expects to re-open on March 15, according to its Facebook page
