Ridgewalk Construction Starts Today, Will Cause Long Delays

Residents should expect "extensive" delays along Ridgewalk Parkway as the second phase of the widening project starts today.

Navigating Ridgewalk Parkway is about to become a little bit more tedious.

City crews today will start an "extensive period" of milling, paving and striping along the entire stretch of road, and the city of Woodstock is asking drivers to find alternate routes.

It's part of the Ridgewalk Parkway widening project the city started earlier this year, and it's expected to cause considerable delays for drivers using the thoroughfare.

This phase of the project is set to be completed by June 21, but that depends on weather conditions cooperating with the city's timeline.

"This process will have an impact to the normal flow of traffic through the entire area," said Tal Harber, Woodstock's capital projects manager. "Traffic delays will be extensive at times due to the nature of the work to be performed."

The contractor is set to mill, pave and then apply temporary striping to the northbound lanes. Once that's complete, the contractor will provide the same services to the southbound lane.

After what's called a "curling time," the contractor will then perform permanent striping.

Traffic control devices and flagmen will be used to direct and assist with traffic flow, but the city strongly advises motorists to use alternate routes during this phase of the project.

The road will be widened between the Outlet Shoppes at Atlanta's main entrance and Ridge Trail.
