Towne Lake Parkway, Rose Creek Drive Will Be Resurfaced

The resurfacing will start after Aug. 1 and will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Motorists who regularly use two major Towne Lake thoroughfares will soon experience a smoother driving experience.

The Cherokee County Commissioners approved awarding a bid to Marietta-based C.W. Matthews to resurface both Towne Lake Parkway and Rose Creek Drive for $1.9 million.

The project, which will be funded with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax dollars, will also include the company installing right-hand turn lanes into the Fairways of Towne Lake, Rose Creek at Towne Lake and The Arbors at Towne Lake subdivisions.

Cherokee County Manager Jerry Cooper said the work was initially estimated at around $4 million. However, after county staff evaluated the condition of the pavement along both roads, they determined the cost would come under $2 million.

Towne Lake Parkway will be resurfaced between its intersection with Eagle Drive and Bells Ferry Road, which is 3.25 miles. Rose Creek Drive will be resurfaced between Towne Lake Parkway and Eagle Drive, which is just over 1 mile in distance.

Cherokee County Public Works Director Geoff Morton said construction could start in after Aug. 1 and wrap up sometime in November.

Morton said the county typically tries to schedule street resurfacing over summer break, but "over the last several years, that window has decreased to only 8 weeks in June and July."

The resurfacing will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m., which Morton said is not during "peak hours." Work will be limited to one lane at a time along Towne Lake Parkway, so there will not be any road closures.
