What's Closed in Cherokee on MLK Day

We've compiled a list of closings in observance of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

All federal, state and local government offices as well as banks will be closed on Monday Jan. 21 in honor of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. holiday.

The holiday marks the birthday of the famed civil rights leader. King’s actual birthday is on Jan. 15, but the third Monday of January was designated as the official holiday in 1983.

The cities of Woodstock, Canton, Holly Springs, WaleskaBall Ground and the Cherokee County government will be closed for the holiday.

Additionally, the Holly Springs City Council as well as the Woodstock City Council have cancelled their scheduled meetings.

The Holly Springs City Council will instead hold its meeting at 7 p.m. on Thursday Jan. 24. Woodstock leaders will meet on Monday Jan. 28 at 7 p.m.

The Waleska City Council will continue with its meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday at Waleska City Hall.

The Cherokee County Tax Commissioners' offices will also be closed on Monday for the holiday as well as the five Cherokee branches of the Sequoyah Regional Library System.

The Cherokee Area Transportation System buses will also not run on Monday.

Cherokee County School District offices and schools will be closed, as well as classes and offices at Cherokee Charter Academy, Reinhardt University and Chattahoochee Technical College

Canton and Woodstock residents who utilize Waste Management for residential waste disposal services should know the company will not pick up trash on Monday. Services will resume on Tuesday and will run one day behind through the rest of the week.

United States Post Offices will also be closed on Monday and mail will not be delivered.

Cherokee County's two recycling centers will also be closed on Monday, which is part of their normal schedule.

City and county offices, schools, banks and all post offices will resume regular operating hours on Tuesday and regular mail delivery will resume on that day.
