Company Withdraws Proposed I-575 Billboard

Tinsley Postiglione withdrew its application to the Woodstock City Council to install a billboard on Rope Mill Road near I-575.

After nearly two months of delay, the company who applied to install a billboard near Interstate 575 in Woodstock has withdrawn its request.

The Woodstock City Council on Monday accepted a request from Tinsley Postiglione to withdraw its appeal to the council to install a billboard on 3.49 acres on Rope Mill Road, adjacent to right-of-way along I-575.

The application was initially denied by city staff and the company appealed to the city council for a possible reversal.

Staff denied the request based on the property's zoning and a deed restriction placed on the property that prohibits it from being used for billboards.

The current zoning of the property, light industrial with technology park overlay, prohibits the installation of billboards within 500 feet of a residential parcel. The city's code allows for residential development in the overlay zoning.

The property was owned by the city and transferred to its current owners earlier this year.

The council also heard a presentation of its proposed millage rate for 2013.

The city's millage rate is currently 7.889 mills and Chief Financial Officer Robert Porche is recommending the rate to remain unchanged. A homeowner whose house is valued at $160,000, with the standard $5,000 exemption, would pay around $482 in city property taxes.

The rate will be adopted during the council's second meeting in August, which will be at 7 p.m. Aug. 26.
