Qualifying Starts Next Week for Woodstock City Council Seats

The office of mayor and Wards 1, 3 and 5 are all up for grabs in the Nov. 5 general election.

Woodstock residents who are eyeing the possibility of getting into politics at the local level will soon be able to make their intentions formal.

Qualifying for the Nov. 5 city election starts next week. Incumbent Mayor Donnie Henriques will be shooting for his third term. Incumbent City Council members Randy Brewer of Ward 1, Bob Mueller of Ward 3 and Bud Leonard of Ward 5 also have announced their plans to run for re-election. 

The terms for the four seats expire on Dec. 31. 

Qualifying for the election will be between Monday Aug. 26 and Wednesday Aug. 28 at the office of the city clerk at the Woodstock City Annex. 

Qualifying hours on Monday are between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. The fees are $360 for the office of mayor and $270 for each city council seat.

Residents must live in the ward at least a year as of the date of the election. An updated city ward map can be viewed on the city's website. Residents who wish to run for mayor must also live in the city at least a year as of the date of the election. 

The deadline for residents to register for the city election is Oct. 7.

City voters will cast their ballots on Election Day from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday Nov. 5 at the Woodstock Public Library. A run-off has been tentatively scheduled for Tuesday Dec. 3 at the library.
